Restaurant Matilda, nestled in the heart of Hensonville, NY, is a fine dining gem that has quickly garnered rave reviews from patrons. Guests have praised its harmonious blend of exceptional food, impeccable service, and thoughtfully designed decor. Francesco Christ heralds the menu as an exciting journey of flavor, crafted meticulously with attention to timing, texture, and portion sizes under the guidance of attentive staff like Mike.
Camilla Roa highlighted the cozy ambiance, especially enjoying dinner by the fireplace with a creative cocktail and a carefully curated wine list. The diverse entrees, including chicken, duck, and striploin, have all been described as spectacular, offering diners a true taste of culinary artistry. Even Lyla Mannoia, who lauded the duck as perhaps the finest she's ever had, pointed out that although some dishes, like the wood-grilled oysters, could improve, the overall experience was exhilarating.
The innovative cocktails and locally sourced ingredients enhance Restaurant Matilda's reputation, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable culinary experience in the Catskills. From inventive pre-meal gardens to desserts that evoke fireworks in the mouth, the restaurant promises a genuine gastronomic adventure.

It was an exceptional experience, it's very hard to get everything right, food, service, decor, etc. The menu was as exciting to read as to taste, the flavors profiles of each dish was wonderfully crafted, there is no other way to describe it. The timing of each dish, the portions, the textures, everything on point. We had Mike guiding us and facilitating our spectacular gastronomical journey. Last night was such a treat, hats off to Chef Jonas and the team. Keep up the outstanding work that you doing!

Everything was perfect about this dinner. We sat next to the fireplace and the expo window. Creative cocktail selections and wonderful wine list. The service was very pleasant- unobtrusive but we felt well taken care of. The menu seemed a bit too eclectic for my taste at first but we decided to get one of every entree (chicken, duck, striploin, trout) and all of them were spectacular in their own way. One way I described them is “you can actually taste the way they were cooked.” Everything fresh and flavorful. We also enjoyed the oysters which were extremely fresh and a chocolate mousse for dessert that was fireworks in our mouths. 10/10 recommend.

Quite possibly the best duck I’ve ever had! Some friends, my husband and I visited a few days after Christmas and I was blown away by the menu offerings and quality of the meal. The only one I didn’t like was the wood grilled oysters - they were so small that after cooking there was hardly anything to eat. But everything else was exquisitely delicious. And, to boot, innovative and expertly made cocktails. This restaurant is a must try in the Catskills.

Restaurant Matilda is a gem in the Catskills. Had breakfast and lunch here on a recent stay and would recommend to anyone in the area. The menu is creative and unique, and uses locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Still dreaming about the pasta! Make sure you save room for dessert!

A great meal in every way. NYC prices but the quality and experience are on par. The pre-meal drink in the garden, the inventive, delicious food (highlights were the cultured butter, pillowy potatoes, chicken, trout that was fishy in the absolute best way and the sundae) are all tops and align with Matilda's relationship with Wildair and Contra. Wines are excellent and hospitality impressive. I'd never heard of Vermont wines, and they happily opened a bottle of a delicious light red to serve by the glass, totally unusual. Oh, and the restaurant and hotel are absolutely stunning. Incredible design in which every detail is just right. Will be happy to return.

The food, atmosphere and service here is unmatched. We sat by the bar to enjoy a round of drinks but were blown away by the food and drinks. Order everything on the menu! Bar Matilda is a great addition to the area. We’ll definitely be back

I still dream of this Amish chicken it was insane! Also the best mignonette I’ve ever had with oysters in my life. I came here solo bc I was on a solo trip but def portions for sharing. Very kind staff, I had a fun lovely dinner here and seriously wish I could eat that chicken again.

A reminder that no matter the public review, your opinion is the right opinion. We read a review of the Amish Chicken on the menu being bad and so out of spite we ordered it.....and it was the best chicken my partner and I have ever had. Whatever you do, go out of your way for the Amish chicken. Oysters are exceptional, dauphine potatoes cloud-like, lettuces, Maine scallops, and of course the Matilda sundae. Drove from the city for the night just to have this meal and would do it in a heartbeat when my PTO accrues back. Well done to the team at Matilda, you should be proud of your hard work and attention to detail, it shines through unlike any other restaurant has in a long, long time.
